Table Converter

Paste cells from Excel or Google Sheets, CSV or a Markdown table and get a Markdown, HTML or plain text table. Nothing is uploaded.

Convert Excel and Google Sheets cells, CSV or an existing Markdown table into a Markdown table, an HTML table or a fixed-width plain text table. A | or a line break inside a cell is kept, not split into a new column or row, and each column can be aligned left, centre or right.

Input: tab-separated text (what spreadsheets copy), CSV with comma or semicolon and "quoted" cells, or a GitHub-style Markdown table. Output follows GitHub-flavoured Markdown table syntax.

Nothing you paste is uploaded or saved.

How to use the Table Converter

  1. Select cells in Excel or Google Sheets and copy them, or copy CSV or a Markdown table.
  2. Paste into the box. The format is detected; pick another under Read as if it guessed wrong.
  3. Untick First row is the header if your first row is data, and use the buttons above the preview to align columns.
  4. Choose Markdown, HTML or Plain text, then press Copy or Download.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn Excel or Google Sheets cells into a Markdown table?

Select the cells in the spreadsheet, copy them, and paste them into the box. Spreadsheets copy cells as tab-separated text, which the converter detects. The Markdown tab shows the table ready to copy.

What happens to a | or a line break inside a cell?

In Markdown a | is written as \| so it does not split the cell, and a line break becomes <br>. In HTML the line break becomes <br> and the text is escaped. In plain text a line break is shown as a space, and the page says so.

How do I right-align or centre a column?

Use the alignment buttons above the preview. Each click cycles that column through left, centre and right. If you paste a Markdown table, its :--- alignment markers are used as the starting point.

Why are the columns in the plain text table still lined up with Chinese, Japanese or emoji?

Column widths are counted in display width, so wide characters such as CJK and most emoji count as two columns. In a monospaced font the columns stay aligned.

Is my table uploaded anywhere?

No. The table is read and converted entirely in your browser, and nothing you paste is uploaded or saved. Only the output tab you last used is remembered.
